Summertime in Estes is busy with festivals, performances, concerts, and celebrations of all kinds.  Over the last few years not only have we had more events but, the volume has seemed to build up as the summer starts to fade away. This upcoming weekend is a perfect example with three separate events taking place.

The Rocky Mountain Half Marathon will kick off the busy weekend on Friday night at 6:30 PM with the 5K run.  The awards ceremony will be held at 7:15 PM.  The half marathon itself will start at 6:00 AM Saturday morning and the awards ceremony will be held at 8:45 AM.  The competitors will have quite the challenge at this altitude and on narrow roads but, we wish everyone good luck.

The Senior Pro Rodeo will be here this Saturday and Sunday.  The minimum age for contestants is 35 years old.  That's right, the MINIMUM age for the SENIOR pro rodeo is 35 years old!  What does that make me?  Never mind, let's not put too much thought into that question.  The contestants aren't considered seniors by my standards but, for the rodeo world they are all seasoned athletes and getting to watch them perform sure brings back memories from my cowboy days.  Although smaller, this rodeo still has just as much fun as the Rooftop Rodeo.  This is a charity rodeo and all monies made are donated to local, Colorado charities.  Over the course of the annual rodeos they have donated over $150,000.

The seniors compete in saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, roping, and bull riding.  There is also mutton bustin' and stick horse races for the kiddos.

The annual Estes Park Wine Festival will also be taking place this weekend it will be held down town in Bond Park.  Food, wine, and entertainment will all be available at your convenience.  Now, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.  If you volunteer for a couple of hours you will get a free general admission ticket to enjoy the rest of your day!  General admission includes a tasting glass, wine tote, and tastings at all participating vendors.  Bring chairs, a blanket, even a picnic lunch, kick back in the park and enjoy the view with wine in hand.  Now, that sounds like a good time to me.

Come on up to my little village and enjoy what little bit of summer we have left.  The fall season brings a whole new set of fun that we can talk about shortly.
